Eyes Eyes Baby – Its summer time!!

6 ways to keep your eyes younger looking and healthy  this season.

1) Wear sunglasses

We already know that we must protect our skin from the Ultraviolet radiation (UVR). Prolonged exposure to these UV rays of the sun can cause photo conjunctivitis, cataracts development and cancer of the eyelids. Wear sunglasses that offer 100% protection against both UVA and UVB rays. Remember to wear sunglasses even on cloudy days.

2) Wear goggles while swimming

Swimming pool water contains chlorine that protects you from germs, but it can also cause irritation of the eyes. Prolonged exposure to chlorine can cause corneal abrasion and other eye injuries. Wear goggles even if you are going to take a swim at the beach, as the water may contain certain contaminants that may irritate the eyes.

3) Wear hats

Not only do they add style to your outfit, they can provide complete protection to your eyes from the UV rays. Sunglasses are helpful, but they have gaps, especially at the sides and therefore UVR exposure can occur. Wear a hat with a brim which is at least 3 inches wide.

4) Eye drops

Despite your best attempts, you might need eye drops to minimize pain or irritation occurring in your eyes.  You can try out ketotifen eye drops for the same. However, it is important to consult a qualified Ophthalmologist.

5)  Wash eyes with cold water

Summer heat can causes dryness of the eyes. Remember to gently wash your eyes with cold water to moisturize and soothe them. Stay hydrated.

6) Use a good moisturizer

Squinting, ageing and dryness can cause wrinkles around the eyes. Hence applying a good moisturizer keeps the skin around the eyes healthy. Try Exquis Beautiful Eyes Cream . It contains natural actives like Turmeric, Aloe Vera, Avocado and neem that helps in softening the wrinkles around the eyes and reducing dark circles, puffiness and surface discolorations; giving you a radiant look!

Beauty sleep

After a strenuous day, don’t we all just look forward to dive into our beds, pull those sheets up, close our eyes and drift into sweet slumber? Sleep does wonders to our overall health. But sleeping at the right time and for adequate amount of time is very important to get maximum benefits.

What Time Should We Sleep?  Is there a best time to sleep?
There is a saying that – ‘Early to bed and early to rise, makes the person healthy, wealthy and wise.’  How true is that? Is it all right to sleep late and wake up late?  We actually have an amazing biological clock ticking inside our body. It is very precise. It helps to regulate our various body functions including our sleeping time.  From 11pm to 3am, most of our blood circulation concentrates in our liver. Our liver gets larger when filled with more blood. This is an important time when our body undergoes detoxification process. Our liver neutralizes and breaks down body toxins accumulated throughout the day.  However if we don’t sleep at this time, our liver cannot carry out this detoxification process smoothly.
If we sleep at 11pm, we have full 4 hours to detoxify our body.
● If we sleep at 12am, we have 3 hours.
● If we sleep at 1am, we have 2 hours.
● If we sleep at 2am, we only have 1 hour to detoxify.
What if we sleep after 3am? Unfortunately, we won’t have any time to actually detoxify our body.
If we continue with this sleeping pattern, these toxins will accumulate in our body over time. We know what happens next.

What if we sleep late and wake up late?
Have you tried going to bed very late at night? Did you realize you feel very tired the next day no matter how much you sleep?  Sleeping late and waking up late is indeed very bad for our health. Besides not having enough time to detoxify our body, we will miss out other important body functions too.

From 5am to 7am – This is the best time to remove the waste and toxins from the body, so poop! Also you should exercise and breathe in fresh air in this time frame. Take in good energy into your body, preferably in a garden. At this time the air is very fresh!

From 7am to 9am – After getting rid of the waste from your body, and finishing exercises, it is time to have a healthy breakfast. This is the most important meal of the day. Make sure you have all the required nutrients from the breakfast. Not having breakfast causes lots of health problems in the future.

There we are…the most ideal way to start our day!   After fully detoxifying our blood during our sleep, we wake up fresh to inhale beneficial energy. Then we pass out unwanted poop from our large intestine. After that, we take in balanced nutrients to prepare our body for a new day.

These days we have more difficulty in following this sleeping schedule. We have good lighting, TV and Internet to delay our precious sleeping time. That is why it is important to switch off the TV, laptops, cell phones etc at least an hour before bedtime. We need a minimum of 7 hours and a maximum of 9 hours of sleep depending on our daily lifestyle.  Beginning of a great day begins a night before. So let’s plan our sleep schedule to have great next day!

What if you have assignment to do until late at night or some other work? Well, why not sleep early and wake up earlier to do it? Just shift your work time from late night to early morning. In this way, you get the same time. But your body will appreciate it.

Try to follow this timing as close as possible. Make it your daily routine.

Sleep your way to a healthier you!

Water – an elixir of life and beauty

We often spend a lot of time searching in order to buy the best and exquisite beauty products that will match the needs of our skin. While a good Makeup can make us look stunning and attractive, it is essential to purify our skin from within. For this the best remedy is to drink adequate amount of water and that too, at the right time of the day.

Yes. There is something called as ‘drinking water at appropriate intervals of time’ throughout the day.

Before we get there, let’s understand how water helps to maintain a healthy skin and body –

1) Water helps in delivering essential nutrients to the skin cells. It replenishes those cells and adds moisture to the skin.

2) Water improves the elasticity of the skin and this helps in delaying the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

3) Water improves digestion and flushes out the toxins from the body. This in turn helps in keeping the skin healthy and glowing!

All right, so now we know that we must drink water for a healthy skin. But how much do we really need? We can drink gallons of water and it will most likely make us run to the bathroom every few minutes. Experts say that the color of your urine determines how well you have hydrated yourself. Different shades of the urine give us an insight into the possible healthy condition of our body. Now we don’t need to delve ourselves into studying The 50 Shades of Yellow for that! One simple trick is to check if the color of the urine appears light yellow or almost transparent. If it is so, then we are most probably having enough water intake. Dark yellow urine means you aren’t drinking enough water, unless you are on some medication or antibiotics or having vitamin-b supplements.

Most experts recommend 10 to 12 glasses (8 ounces each glass) of water every day for a good health. Here’s the best time to drink water according to Ayurveda –

1) Drink two glasses of water first thing in the morning – flushes out toxins from the body

2) Drink one glass of water before meals – helps to digest the food properly

3) Drink one glass of water before bathing – lowers blood pressure

4) Drink one glass of water 30 minutes before bedtime – reduces heart related problems

5) Never drink a lot of water immediately after meals. Wait for at least 45 minutes and ideally 1 hour after a meal. You may sip a little water if you have a dry throat or feel too thirsty before those 45 minutes.

6) It is best to drink water that is at the room temperature. Warm water is still better. Sipping warm water during meals aids in pushing down the food smoothly. Also having any hot soup helps.

7) Do not chug a lot of water at once. Keep sipping it throughout the day.

8) Remember: Sip – Swallow – Breathe – Repeat!
